The name David or Dave means, “man after God’s own heart, and/or beloved.” Dave began playing guitar at age 12 (1990). Dave would sneak into his brother’s room and secretly practice (avoiding a good whoopin’ for trespassing on “private property”). Dave started his first band at age 13. His parents were surprisingly patient and supportive, even when the walls were shaking. His dad always said it was better that Dave was at home making a racket than out on the streets getting into mischief. In 1996, Dave’s hard work began paying off. He won his senior high school talent show playing a very demanding guitar duet named, “Air” by Jason Becker. He also performed several concerts with the jazz band. This was the beginning of Dave’s live performances. But Dave’s musical career nearly ended before it started. He was born with Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome, a heart condition which caused his heart to race out of control periodically. Dave suffered physically and emotionally from this potentially deadly condition until after many prayers, and a skilled surgeon in Oklahoma performed an invasive operation to correct this life threatening condition. When Dave got the green light from his cardiologist, he went on tour with a band called “Shaded Red”, whose members were friends from church. That same year, Shaded Red signed with a Christian Record Label. Shaded Red toured nationwide, often sharing the stage with popular bands such as DC Talk, Newsboys, Switch Foot, and Delirious. They also recorded with the London Philharmonic Orchestra at Abby Road Studios in London (where the Beatles recorded). When not on tour, Dave resided in Nashville, TN. There he co-wrote the song “Bonded,” recorded on Michael Tait’s (of DC Talk) CD “Empty” and collaborated with many other well-known Christian artists. In 2000, Dave felt the urge to return home and moved back west to Denver. Since his return, Dave has become a successful, national, independent recording artist. Tapping into his unique creativity and immense capacity for hard work, Dave released 5 CDs of purely instrumental music in a period of 5 years. He has always had a passion for creating and listening to relaxing and inspiring instrumental music, which influenced the signature style heard on his CDs. His vision is to bring rest and encouragement to all through his music--including himself. Creating and listening to his own music has helped him get through some of his toughest times. Dave plays guitar (his first love), violin, Irish whistle, Uilleann pipes, piano, and bass guitar. During the last few years, Dave has been performing at numerous churches in Colorado, at art & music festivals nationwide, and at local malls, where listeners in the holiday spirit snap up his CDs. Dave has also been singing in the shower, in the automobile, and at karaoke bars for most of his life, and now aspires to share his voice with the world. Stay tuned for Dave’s first vocal CD! Dave’s current musical goal is to make instrumental music that creates a relaxing atmosphere. Ultimately, Dave’s mission in life is to: Know God and make Him known; Realize/receive God’s love, and share that love with others; Make music as unto the Lord; and Share that music with all whom desire to listen. |
